gep camp
Tuesday, March 25
today was the first day of gep camp. 1 of the 4 that we're gonna have.
the first half of the day was insanely boring. first 1 hour was just briefing, and ms yvonne lim and ms law were obviously trying to stretch the 1 hour as long as possible, cos what they were doing obviously didn't need 1 hour... during that time, ryan, qx, jonathan and i were talking so a lot, since there was nothing else to do, and there was also very funny content on the screen :P
then when we were waiting for the keynote address speaker, ms ong came down and told me not to talk so much... only me you know... haizzz. further agrees with qx initial belief. shall not say too much on that, lest something happen.
so the keynote address was supposed to be by a guy called "Mr Eugene Sim" in the camp booklet. but when he came in, we realised it was mr sim eu gin, as in the preacher who sometimes does chapel. lol. what a keynote speaker. so he gave us a talk about renaissance, which was the theme of the gep camp. i didnt catch much cos in my effort to not talk, i ended up feeling sleepy. but he then invited his own invited speaker to tell us about what she did. she was a potter, and showed us some pictures of her pottery and whatnot. it was really cool. then she passed round some clay, which qx said looks just like faeces! lol XD
so after that, i had to stay back in the lt cos mr dave tay wanted to meet all the people in his elective, personal grooming, which was what i chose obviously. then when i was moving across, mrs andriany tee suddenly walked pass me and suddenly said, "clement, you need to help out with the drama elective." i was like WHAT?!?!?!?! they could have at least told me earlier... haiz. i was looking forward to a day with mr dave tay's eccentricity and funny random spin of topics, but it wasnt to be. so i broke off from qx and ryan, and went for recess while they had their briefing.
then when i went out and to the toilet, i saw sean ng at the sink wetting his hair. then i asked him what he was doing, and he said that there was bird shit in his hair! HAHAHA! so after he finished washing till he was satisfied, i helped him dry his hair with the hand dryer :P then he said if only martin was there, then he could say, "eh martin, i think i got some dandraft here, can you help me take it out or not?" then martin would unknowingly use his hand to flick it off, and get his hand tainted with bird shit XD hahaha, sean so evil
so after loitering around the sac for a while, i saw qx and ryan strolling along, and went to talk to them about the contents of the glorious briefing with mr dave tay, which was apparently traumatic for qx, as mr dave tay had said, "some of you here will be chosen for presentation on friday. qin xiang, i want a video!" just as qx himself had predicted :P
so with the limited amount of time i had left, we all bought hakka noodles. all buy the same thing just for me, how touching :) lol. so i finished my noodles as fast as i was willing to, as i wasnt really concerned if i was late by a few minutes. and qx repeated the words of wisdom i had said before: "the princess is never late. the rest are all just early."
so after bidding a teary-eyed farewell to qx (yea right), i went off to the boarding school dining hall, where the drama elective was being held. and the people in charge were not even there... haiz. how efficient eh? should never keep the princess waiting. well they finally came and they split up the people into 3 groups, and i took 1 group with vieshaalan to do the elective. and amazingly, all the people from 3.9 (arjun, joshua, leon, jeng yang, darren) managed to be in 1 group. but as luck would have it, i didnt get to be in charge of their group... haiz.
they played charades, which in my opinion was VERY boring. and when i asked the 3.9 people later, they resounded my thoughts exactly, if not worse. joshua liew was especially critical as he was the only one not leaving for mind games :P
so at 11:45am we (as in the 3.9ers except joshua, and including me) went off to eat lunch for before mind games. then at 12:15pm onwards we went to our respective venues to prepare for the students coming later.
since gareth neo dint come to school, jonathan was chosen to join us for iq quiz! how fun. so we were writing on cards for the speed round, which they would be raising to answer the questions. then we arranged the tables to how we would want it for the team rounds.
then at 1:05pm i left with ryan and adriel to the front of the school, as we were ushers and had to bring the 10 participating schools (ACSJ, ACSP, Cat High, Henry Park, Nan Hua, Nanyang, RGPS, Rosyth, St. Hilda's, Tao Nan) to the old cpa for registration. and we decided to go early just in case. and good thing we did, cos when we went there, we immediately saw acs junior making just about to go up to the green level, as they signage said that it was on level 3, and everyone thinks the red level is level 1. so we led them down to the old cpa, which was still locked, so we led them to the sac, which was where we eventually led all other early schools, with the help of michael kwan who came a little later.
so after a lot of running around, all 10 schools were there, and they were all seated in the old cpa, in the freezing cold air-con. then when we walked in, the sweat did nothing to help insulate us, and made matters worse for us. so after the briefing, i brought the chillun to room 313 (2.12 classroom! woot!) for the iq quiz, and apparently samuel accidentally showed the answer of 1 question on the screen while they were coming in. lame...
so the quiz went rather well i'd say, and it was fun marking the papers, though it took quite some time. apparently the questions were too hard, cos the highest score for round 1 was 20/30, while round 2 was 212/360. of course round 3 is a different matter altogether, since it's a speed round, so the questions were like much simpler. anyway the round 2 questions were slightly harder to mark, not to mention the mistakes sam had in his answer key... haha. and since we took so long to mark, our results arrived to ms ong quite late. she even came to the classroom to see how much longer we needed. then she said jokingly, "now you know how hard it is for teachers to mark your papers". haha, true, though i dont think teacher's markings for science/math papers are subjective at all, since they follow marking guidelines. in our case, we just gave marks for partial working based on whim :P hehehe.
now qin xiang is talking to me over msn telling me how unfair the iq quiz is... haiz. all iq quizzes too, he claims. cos according to him, "they r primary sch and we sec 3 ppl cant do it as well. i cant, jy cant, jon cant, peter tan cant, michael kwan cant, and even my dad cant" well there's only so much you can do for an iq quiz anyway, no matter how flawed the concept of iq is.
so overall, tao nan won the mind games yet again :P they must be rather good.
haiz... tmr another round of nonsense... i have to help out at drama elective again! and no mind games to save me from the asylum :( well at least that means i dont have to present for any elective. but not that the trade-off is worth it... i was looking forward to photography with the whole gang of people who followed my options in signing up for the electives... haiz... the trendsetter pulled away from the crowd. so sad! and not like many people from 3.9 signed up for drama... i think they can sense the kind of standard they'll be getting... well i certainly hope the other 2 days will be better... i wanna be with my class! the better half at least.
AMEN;
